We regret to advise readers that Bristol’s Planning Department is in meltdown with
massive delays and huge backlogs.
Cllr Henry Michallat advises: “If anyone is thinking of undertaking building work,
which requires a planning application, you should apply for planning permission as
early as possible. At present, planning applications are taking around 9 months to be
processed. They should, of course, ordinarily take no more than 8 weeks’’.
The whole situation could have been avoided, if only the Mayor had listened.
Cllr John Goulandris adds : “ Last year it was already obvious that the Planning
Department needed additional resources and we put forward a fully costed budget
amendment. The Mayor rashly and arrogantly rejected our proposal. And now the
Planning Department is in exactly the mess we predicted.”
A new department head has been appointed and additional staff - belatedly- are
being recruited
